Great Western Park Community Centre
A new multi-purpose community facility at the heart of Great Western Park, Didcot, the accommodation includes a central foyer and community café, halls, meeting rooms, youth room, crèche, stores, toilets, kitchen and separate police office.
A south facing terrace off Gentian Mews provides an outside semi private / public garden as an external extension to the foyer café. A separate garden for use by the crèche provides secure outside space; both the secure garden and terrace have a covered external area.
A simple materials palette of brickwork and through colour render together with polyester powder coated aluminium framed windows is used. Principle facades to Greenwood Way Neighbourhood Square and the corner with Gentian Mews are brickwork. Facades set back from the street frontage are rendered. The hall block elevation facing the square is punctured with a rhythmic series of windows which flood the interior space with daylight.
The proposals received planning approval in December 2017. The project was built by Beard Construction and completed in September 2019. The building opened to users in 2021.
