WHO WE ARE
Philipson Knowle is an RIBA chartered architectural design practice with a focus on delivering rational and simple design solutions quickly and efficiently. We have particular expertise in the design of community facilities and schools.
The practice was established in 2014 by Richard Philipson, an architect with over 30 years project experience and previously a director of leading architects Stride Treglown Limited.
Richard’s expertise in education and community projects has developed since 1998 when he began work on the design of a model primary school, a typology that has subsequently been delivered across more than twenty sites for local authorities in Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon, Bedford, Bracknell Forest and Oxfordshire. Richard maintains an ongoing consultancy role in the delivery of further examples of this model school.
Richard is Conservation Registrant accredited, acknowledging his awareness of and interest in the issues involved in working with historic buildings.
WHAT WE DO
Richard’s years of experience working closely and effectively with clients, end users and contractors ensures he and his team deliver rational design solutions that are cost effective to operate, straight forward to build, look great and are a pleasure to use.
With over thirty years’ experience Philipson Knowle are able to offer a cost effective architectural service from inception, feasibility and concept design, through technical design and on to project completion.
Philipson Knowle’s clients include Persimmon, Hallam Land Management, Bloor Homes, Exeter College, Taylor Wimpey, Mi-Space and Wessex Water, working to deliver primary schools, community halls, sports pavilions and storage depots, with design work for large scale mixed use developments and council offices.
The practice enjoys working with private clients for new residential, extensions or conversion projects in and around Somerset.
As an RIBA Conservation Registrant Richard can bring his knowledge and experience of working on historical building with traditional materials.
HOW WE DO IT
We believe that good design comes from rational planning and problem solving. Philipson Knowle do this by working things through with a fat black felt tip pen and sheets of paper before going near a computer. So all Philipson Knowle’s work starts off on a drawing board as a hand made sketch – directly connecting our experience and thinking, through the medium of a pen, to a solution.
Options are reviewed, discussed and developed with optimum solutions developed in CAD. This efficient and effective process enables Philipson Knowle to deliver robust designs quickly whilst ensuring considered solutions and good design are maintained.
Philipson Knowle will always listen; we aim to work closely with you so that your project meets requirements and exceeds expectations.
“Hallam Land Management look to Philipson Knowle first for any school or community development proposal – we know we’ll get an appropriate, effective and timely response, from someone who knows and cares about what they are doing.”
Nick Duckworth, Managing Director
